Your Bladder Is a Small Child + Women's Healthcare

I use this analogy all the time.

Think of your bladder like a small child, and the bathroom as a candy store.

✨

If you let a child get a piece of candy every time they tantrum - they will continue to tantrum and yell until they get the candy next time (and sometimes it's louder and more aggressive than the times before)

✨

Your bladder is the same with the equivalent to the candy being that of using the bathroom.

If every single time you have an urge to go, you go - when it comes to a time that you really need or want to hold it - AKA that portapotty is super gross or your waiting in a long line at the drive through - you won't be able to!

The bladder can tantrum so much that it will, and often does to many people, make you leak!!

✨

The initial urge someone gets to urinate never means that you actually HAVE to go to the bathroom, but instead is the signal that you bladder has just started filling. So, try to hold it for more than 2 hours every time you go - you should never HAVE to (unless consuming a large amount of fluids) go to the bathroom more frequently than every 2-4 hours.

Did you realize that pelvic floor health is some much more than just women's health care?

Did you also realize that women's health is so much more than pelvic floor care?

✨

Women's health is an important factor to consider - we have the fluctuations and changes in hormone health that comes with a cyclical body as well as the ability to create life.

We have to consider that our bodies are meant to be cared for, nurtured, listened to and worked with through all phases of the cycle.

✨

It seems, more often than not, that the people advocating for women's health care - are pelvic PTs. But, we NEED to start to realize that pelvic PT is not the only component of women's health that needs to be listened to and worked with/for and on.

✨

What’s one way that you can listen to your body in all the phases of your cycle?

How does the pelvic floor and working with a pelvic floor therapist make all of this more apparent?
